Happy late November to all.
It's that magical time of year that I consider practice for Christmas. More than half of everybody I know are born between November 15th and November 30th. Okay, that's an exaggeration, but lots of people I've known have birthdays now. I can think of 6.
Tonight, before coming back to Toronto to hang out with my Peterboroughian pals, I'm attending my sister's birthday party at her house in Brooklyn. For my birthday last year, Mandy gave me a birthday card that was shaped like a butterfly and was originally to wish "ms. Chapman" a happy end of the school year. Mandy changed the text to wish Kyle Chapman a happy birthday. Then on Scott's birthday I gave it back to him, with the text changed again, and on Jeff's birthday, he became the proud owner of this same card.
One time recently, me and my mom were remembering this instance (and noticing that Jeff and Liz must've forgotten it or given it to someone else), and mom said it was a great idea to use the same card over and over. It would be such a great joke, and we'd never need cards, and it would be full of memories. Well, one thing I found while moving was a big pile of birthday cards. They begin from when I was 8, and since then I've thrown most birthday/Christmas/thank you/get well cards in the bottom drawer of my dresser. There were lots of freakin' birthday cards.
So, I decided that I didn't want to buy a card (I usually make them anyways) and I didn't want to make them (because I hadn't thought of a good gag), and since I knew where all those cards were, I was going to implement this idea. I went through my pile of birthday cards and found some from Carrie for when I was 8, 9, 10, 11, 12... yeah, they were old. They were also pretty funny, because the insides were all largely the same.
Hey Kyle,
Happy birthday, I guess you had a good year, and I hope you have another good one. I think you're a nice boy, but Jeff thinks you're kind of dumb. Well, I can't think of anything else to write really, so HAPPY BIRTHDAY.
Carrie Chapman
Okay, that's actually a mishmash of all of the funny parts of the cards. I decided to use the one from when I was nice because Carrie is turning 29. She always buys a card for young people and writes another digit in front, and sometimes I steal that gag from her (I recently perfected it on my last card for Jeff, it was awesome). So, I put a 2 in front. Actually, I'll just take a picture and post that here. The inside is really amusing. She would've been 15, then.
Come to think of it, I have enough cards that I shouldn't need to make or buy a card for a really long time, except for those assholes who never used cards.
I have three assignments left this semester. The music essay was due Monday, the algorithms is due Wednesday, and the graphics thing is due in about two weeks. There's also data communications, but Wai is (allegedly) going to handle that one. The music lady said she doesn't care if we do it Monday, as long as we arrange a partner to have our essay edited by during next week. I think this weekend I'll just finish it for Monday. The algorithms thing won't be a problem, that course has become a lot of fun lately. The graphics thing I'm concerned about.
Too bad that I'm not a good programmer. Instead I do logic and algorithms... neat stuff, fun stuff, but they don't really put code on the table. For example, this game idea that me and the gang have been theoretically talking about lately, it would be very difficult for me to do real programming for it. It seems like such a fun thing to do, though. Every time we're together we discuss a few more aspects of it. What's peculiar is that the characters are now quite fleshed out, and the enemies have a real structure, but we have no idea of the real story.
We'd better get drunk tonight so we can work on it.
